Fabriek: De Steenuil, Rijswijk
Ceramic studio “De Steenuil” was founded on November 1, 1947, by Henk J. Goosen (1924, Kampen) according to the Chamber of Commerce Haaglanden. The studio began in Herenstraat in Rijswijk, a location that is now part of the Rijswijk Museum. The studio later moved to Van Vredenburchweg and then to Torenstraat 1D, all within Rijswijk.
Henk Goosen, who started as an apprentice at the age of fourteen at W.C. Brouwer in Leiderdorp, ran this one-man business. Over fifty years, he produced a wide range of ceramic works, especially vases with drip and bubble glazes, but also smooth, glossy, and matte finishes, mainly for florists. Later, he expanded his range to include bowls, mantel sets, and dinnerware, often custom-made on commission.
A characteristic of Goosen's work was the signature of an owl, and later the addition of 'Rijswijk'. He was known for his artisanal method of working, using a foot or kick wheel.
Henk Goosen passed away in 1997.
